Fabrication built for data center construction

Pre-engineered metal buildings have sloped roofs. Most standard components ship designed for flat ones, not fully welded, not engineered for the actual building they will sit on. On a data center build where cooling runs 24/7 and schedule is everything, that gap compounds fast.

Custom Curb fabricates fully welded, insulated, pitch-corrected steel engineered to the actual conditions of the building: the real roof slope, the real spec, the real schedule. Every component arrives prefabricated and inspection-ready, sequenced to the contractor's program so nothing waits on fabrication.

Below are the three products we have proven on data center builds. Every unit is custom-fabricated to the spec and conditions of the actual building.

Roof Curbs (PEMB Curbs)

Fully welded, insulated, galvanized steel. Pitch-corrected to the actual roof slope so every component seats level and seals correctly, regardless of the building geometry. Engineered in-house from the spec. No catalog dimensions applied to a building they weren't designed for.

Roof Curbs (PEMB Curbs)
  • Function: elevated structural frames used to safely mount rooftop equipment such as HVAC units, exhaust fans, or skylights onto the metal roof.
  • Level Mounting: a perfectly flat, level platform for heavy or vibrating equipment on sloped or ribbed metal roofs.
  • Weatherproofing: raises the equipment above the roof deck, tightly sealed with flashing and gaskets to prevent water leaking through roof penetrations.
  • Structural Support: metal roof panels cannot support heavy machinery alone. Curbs transfer equipment weight directly to the building's structural framework (purlins).
  • Panel Profile Compatibility: Double-Lok, Batten Lok, R-Panel, MBCI, Butler, VPSSR, American SS 360, VP Panel Rib, Kingzip, Nucor CFR, or any roof.
  • Pitch Range Supported: Any.
  • Maximum Unit Weight Supported: Any.

Spring Isolation Curbs

A two-piece galvanized steel assembly with coil springs that absorb continuous mechanical vibration before it reaches the building structure. On a data center build where cooling runs 24/7, vibration isolation isn't an option. It's the specification. The spring isolation system is typically the highest-value component of the rooftop package, and it's where the engineering makes the difference.

Spring Isolation Curbs
  • Function: structural mounting bases for rooftop HVAC that incorporate heavy-duty steel springs to absorb, dampen, and isolate equipment vibrations.
  • Noise Reduction: RTUs and exhaust fans generate constant vibrations that travel through framing and become audible buzzing in the rooms below.
  • Equipment Longevity: the springs float the equipment, absorbing motion and reducing wear.
  • Building Safety: engineered to keep the HVAC unit safely restrained during high winds or seismic events.
  • Deflection Range: 1 in to 4 in deflection, seismically restrained spring mounts with hot dip galvanized housing.
  • Maximum Unit Weight: Any.
  • Applications: rooftop packaged HVAC units, commercial exhaust, skylights and supply fans, hospital and healthcare facilities.
  • Typically installed on: data centers, hospitals, commercial buildings, and large rooftop mechanical systems where roofs are relatively flat. Pitch correction is available when required.
  • Partners: Mason West, Inc., Industrial Metal Supply, Maas Hansen Steel, West Coast Aluminum and Stainless Steel.

Equipment Covers and Temporary Curb Caps

When components are ready before the equipment arrives, and on large data center builds supply chains break, open penetrations expose the building and stall work. Custom Curb fabricates galvanized steel caps to seal and protect until the equipment is on site. No field welding. No schedule interruption. The build keeps moving.

Materials and Gauges

Shared specifications for our roof curbs and spring isolation curbs.

  • Standard Materials: galvanized steel and aluminum. Stainless steel and copper also available.
  • Galvanized Steel Gauge: 18 to 11.
  • Stainless Steel Gauge: 18 to 11.
  • Aluminum: .032, .063, .080, .090, .100, .125 decimal.
  • Copper: 16, 20, 32, 48 ounce.

Insulation

Insulfoam R-Tech panels, roughly R-3.9 per inch.

  • 1 inch: R-3.85
  • 1-1/2 inch: R-5.8
  • 2 inch: R-7.7

Construction and Pitch Correction

  • Fully welded construction. Knockdown curbs offered if requested.
  • Custom Curb routinely incorporates pitch correction into PEMB sloped-roof applications.
  • Custom pitch correction is available across the entire product line to ensure level equipment support and proper roof integration.

10-Year Structural and Workmanship Warranty

The 10-year structural and workmanship warranty applies to both roof curbs and spring isolation curbs. It covers:

  • Weld integrity
  • Structural performance of the curb
  • Galvanized or aluminum construction
  • Material and fabrication defects
  • Factory-installed insulation and components

Warranty Exclusions

  • Spring manufacturer defects, which are covered by the spring manufacturer
  • Equipment vibration issues from improper equipment selection
  • Installation errors or improper installation
  • Corrosion from chemicals or coastal environments beyond design limits
  • Roof panel failure
  • Building movement or settlement
  • Sealant deterioration requiring maintenance
  • Weather events beyond design criteria

Lead Times

  • Standard Orders, 5 to 10 business days: most standard curb orders ship within 5 to 10 business days following drawing approval.
  • Rush Orders, 2 to 5 business days: expedited production is available for qualifying projects, with select orders shipping in as little as 2 to 5 business days.
  • Heavy Custom Fabrication, 10 to 20 business days: large, complex, or heavily customized fabrication projects typically ship within 10 to 20 business days depending on scope and engineering requirements.
